How Screening Works
CONFIRM screens candidates with an AI voice agent that calls them, asks your job’s screening questions, and reports the results to the candidate’s profile. This page walks through that lifecycle from your point of view.
When a screening call happens
A candidate becomes eligible for screening when they reach the Awaiting Screening stage. From there, a call is placed in one of two ways:
- Automatically — jobs with auto-screening enabled (shown with an “Auto” badge on the Jobs page) queue an outbound call as soon as the candidate is ready to be screened.
- Recruiter-initiated — open the candidate’s profile and use Start Screening to place the call yourself. This is also offered right after you add a phone number to a candidate who didn’t have one.
What the agent does on the call
Greeting and identity check
The agent introduces itself by name on behalf of your company and confirms it’s speaking with the right person.
Role confirmation
It confirms the position the candidate applied for, so misunderstandings surface before any questions are asked.
Screening questions
The agent works through the job’s screening questions in order, one at a time, acknowledging each answer naturally.
Candidate questions
If the candidate asks about the role, company, pay, or policies, the agent answers using the documents you’ve uploaded to the knowledge base (per job or per agent).
Knockout evaluation and closing
Answers are evaluated against the job’s knockout criteria. The agent then closes the call politely, with next steps that depend on the outcome.
Outcomes
Either way, the candidate’s profile receives the full record: per-question responses, an AI recommendation, fit scores, the call recording, and a transcript. AI analysis can take a moment after the call ends — the profile shows “Analyzing…” until it’s ready. See Reviewing Results for how to read and act on all of this.
Voicemail, retries, and callbacks
Not every call connects on the first try:
- Voicemail — the agent leaves a brief message identifying your company and inviting the candidate to call back. The voicemail appears as its own entry on the candidate’s Calls tab.
- Retries — after a missed call, the system schedules another attempt. The candidate’s Overview tab shows a Call retry scheduled banner with the date and time, and a Cancel call option if you’d rather not retry.
- Callbacks — candidates can call the number back at any time; the agent answers and picks up where things left off. See Inbound Calls.
Missed-call follow-ups by SMS or email depend on your communication rules under Settings → Communications.
