# Managing Postings

This page covers what you can do with postings once they exist. Everything here happens on the **Postings** page; for how the page is laid out, see [Postings Overview](/postings/postings-overview).

## Row buttons

Each posting row has one main button, which depends on the posting:

| Button | Shown on | What it does |
| ------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Manage** | Running or stopping postings bought through CONFIRM | Opens the posting's actions menu (see below). |
| **Repost** | Ended or stopped postings bought through CONFIRM | Opens the job board buying page for that job so you can order a new run. Reposting is a new purchase. See [Posting to Job Boards](/postings/posting-to-job-boards). |
| **Open in** *board* | Own-account postings | Opens the listing in your board account in a new tab. Use it to sponsor or manage the listing on the board — CONFIRM can't set a budget on an account it doesn't hold. The button is greyed out until the board provides a link. |
| **Resume** | Postings bought through CONFIRM that were paused before pausing was retired | Marks the posting as running again. These postings were never taken off the board, so nothing changes on the listing. |

Rows whose main button is **Open in** *board* or **Resume** also have a **⋯** button with the same actions menu, when there's something you can change. Postings bought through CONFIRM also show a link icon to view the listing on the board, once the board has provided one.

## The actions menu

Click **Manage** (or **⋯**) on a row to see what you can do with that posting. The menu only lists actions that apply to the posting right now:

| Action | Shown on | What it does |
| ------------------------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Turn auto-renew off** / **Turn auto-renew on** | Running postings bought through CONFIRM | Stops or starts automatic renewal. See [Auto-renew](#auto-renew). |
| **Sync to board** | Publishing and running postings | Pushes your latest edits to the job onto the live listing. The dialog shows **What will change on the listing**, or says the listing already matches the job. |
| **Reassign to a different role** | Publishing and running postings | Moves the posting to another of your jobs. The live listing is updated to the new role's title, description, salary, and location. Candidates who already applied stay with the original role; new applicants land on the new role. |
| **Pause posting** | Running own-account postings | Takes the ad offline on your board account. See [Pausing an own-account posting](#pausing-an-own-account-posting). |
| **Resume posting** | Paused own-account postings | Re-posts the ad to your board account as a new listing. |
| **Open job** | Postings attached to a job | Opens the job's console. |
| **Stop posting** | Publishing, running, and paused postings | Takes the ad down for good, after you confirm. See [Stopping a posting](#stopping-a-posting). |

Sync and reassign are only offered while a posting is running — not while it's paused, stopping, or ended. A posting that's stopping has nothing left to change; its menu says "Nothing to change on this posting right now."

> **Note**
>
> Changing postings requires the Administrator or Recruiter role. Other roles can open the menu, but it only tells them their role can't change postings.

## Stopping a posting

Choose **Stop posting** from the actions menu and confirm. What the confirmation tells you depends on the kind of posting:

* **Bought through CONFIRM**: the ad comes down on the board, usually within a few hours. You've already paid for the run, and stopping early doesn't refund the remaining days. If you paid by card, your card won't be charged again. To list the job again later, you place a new order.
* **Own account**: the ad comes down on your board account, usually within a few hours. CONFIRM doesn't charge anything. To list it again later, you post it again.

After you confirm, you'll see **Stopping your posting**. The row shows **Stopping…** with "Taking it down on *board*. Boards can take a few hours." until the board confirms the ad is offline. It then moves into the group's ended postings as **Stopped**, with the date and who stopped it — for example, "Stopped Oct 7 by Dana Reyes" — or why, such as "when the job was filled". Stopped postings stay on the page under **Ended**, and a stopped posting never renews.

Postings bought through CONFIRM can't be paused: a job board has no pause for a paid run. To end one early, stop it. To let it finish the run you've paid for without buying another, turn auto-renew off.

### Applicants who arrive after you stop a posting

Boards can be slow to take an ad down, so a few people may still apply after you stop it. They're added to the job and handled like any other applicant. The row shows "Still receiving applicants after you stopped it — CONFIRM is getting it taken down." CONFIRM asks the board to take the ad down again and alerts its own team to follow up with the board. The row's history also notes each late applicant.

## Pausing an own-account posting

For postings on your own Indeed or LinkedIn account, **Pause posting** takes the ad offline on your account, so it stops receiving applicants. You'll see **Posting paused**, and the row reads "Paused · taken down from your *board* account" (or "taking it down" until the board confirms). CONFIRM doesn't charge anything for pausing or resuming.

To bring it back, choose **Resume posting**. The ad is re-posted to your account as a new listing, and you'll see **Posting resumed**. The new listing replaces the paused one on the Postings page.

## Auto-renew

Postings bought with **Keep this posting running** re-order themselves at the end of each run and show **Recurring** (or **Renews** with a date).

You can turn auto-renew off at any time: click **Manage** on the posting and choose **Turn auto-renew off**. You'll see **Auto-renew turned off** — the posting finishes its current run and stops, and nothing further is charged. If you paid for the posting by card, this also stops the card charges. Stopping the posting stops them too.

To turn it back on, choose **Turn auto-renew on** and confirm.

When a renewal is within 7 days, it also appears in the renewals card near the bottom of the Postings page, with its date and cost at today's prices. Click **Pause renewal** there to turn auto-renew off.

### What a renewal costs

A renewal re-orders the same boards at **today's price**, which can differ from what the last run cost. If today's price for the posting can't be determined, the posting isn't renewed and auto-renew is turned off; re-order it from the Postings page to keep it live. The renewals card shows "price unavailable" for any renewal in that situation.

Renewals only happen while the job is active, whether they're billed to your CONFIRM invoice or to your card. If the job is paused, closed, filled, or deleted when a renewal comes due, the posting isn't re-ordered, your card isn't charged, and auto-renew is turned off.

A card renewal is charged to the company card that was the default when the posting was bought. Changing the default card later doesn't move existing recurring postings, and removing that card can make them fail to renew. A renewal goes ahead even if it takes your monthly marketing budget over its cap; it still counts toward the budget, and Admins are emailed when that happens. Each renewal appears in payment activity as an **Automatic** entry. See [Company Card & Budgets](/billing/company-card-and-budgets).

> **Warning**
>
> The renewal is ordered and charged a little before the current run ends, so the date shown counts down to the charge, not to the end of the run. Turn auto-renew off before that date.

## When a job changes status

What happens to a job's postings follows the job:

| Job change | What happens to its postings |
| ------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Closed** or **deleted** | Every running or paused posting is stopped. |
| **Filled** | The fill dialog lists the job's postings under **Active postings — pick which to cancel**, all checked. Checked postings are stopped; uncheck one to keep it live on the board. See [Managing Jobs](/jobs/managing-jobs). |
| **Paused** | Own-account postings are paused (taken offline). Postings bought through CONFIRM keep running until their runs end. |
| **Reopened** | Nothing. Stopped postings stay stopped and paused ones stay paused; resume or re-order them yourself. |

When you pause a job that has a running posting bought through CONFIRM, a **Pause this job?** dialog explains that the posting keeps running and that new applicants wait until you reactivate the job. Choose **Pause and stop posting** to pause the job and stop those postings too, or **Pause job** to pause the job and leave them running.

## Checking a posting's history

Click the clock icon on any row to see that posting's history — when it was ordered, published, changed, stopped, and confirmed offline on the board. For older postings, some entries are reconstructed from the posting's own dates and are marked as such.

## Keeping listings accurate

Changes you make to a job after it's posted aren't automatically pushed to listings already live on boards. When a live listing needs updating — a new pay rate or a corrected description — choose **Sync to board** from the posting's actions menu. The dialog shows each change side by side (**Current on board** and **New**) before you confirm.

## Organic distribution

If free organic posting is turned on for your organization, use the **Organic distribution** panel at the bottom of the Postings page to switch individual jobs on or off, or **Enable all** / **Disable all**. Changes can take a day or two to show up on the free boards.
