# Talent Pools

Talent pools are named collections of candidates that cut across jobs. Use them for people worth coming back to: strong runners-up, candidates for a role you'll open next quarter, or anyone you don't want to lose track of when their application closes.

Find them under **Talent Pools** in the sidebar. Each pool card shows its name, description, color, and how many candidates it holds.

## Creating a pool

#### Click New Pool

On the Talent Pools page, click **New Pool**. If you have no pools yet, click **Create Your First Pool**.

#### Name and describe it

Enter a name, which must be unique, and an optional description of who belongs in the pool.

#### Pick a color

The color appears on the pool's card and on candidate badges, so pools are easy to tell apart.

#### Click Create Pool

The pool is ready to receive candidates.

## Adding candidates to a pool

There are three ways:

* **From a candidate's profile**: click **Add to Pool** in the action bar, choose the pool under **Select Pool**, and add optional notes. The dialog shows which pools the candidate is **Already in**.
* **From the Candidates page, in bulk**: select candidates, then click **Add to Pool** in the [bulk actions toolbar](/candidates/bulk-actions). Candidates already in the pool are skipped.
* **When you mark a job as filled**: the Mark as Filled dialog's **Save candidates to a talent pool** option is on by default. It saves the job's in-progress candidates, who are closed out when the job is filled, to a new pool, named after the job and month, or to one of your existing pools.

A candidate can belong to any number of pools. Their pools appear as colored badges in their profile header.

> **Note**
>
> Adding a candidate to a pool doesn't change their status or their application. Pools are an organizing layer on top.

## Viewing a pool's members

Click a pool to open the Candidates page filtered to that pool. The page title becomes the pool's name, and a banner shows which pool you're viewing, with **Back to pools** to return. Search, filters, bulk actions, and profiles all work as usual, so you can, for example, email everyone in a pool.

You can also use pools as a filter on the main Candidates page. The **Pools** filter shows candidates **In pools** or **Not in pools** you choose, and **Hide all pooled candidates** hides anyone in any pool. See [Filters and Saved Views](/candidates/filters-and-saved-views).

## Editing and deleting pools

Each pool card has a menu:

* **Edit** changes the pool's name, description, or color.
* **Delete** removes the pool permanently. The candidates in it aren't deleted; they're only removed from the pool. A pool marked **Default** can't be deleted.
